What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

Hmmmm, good one. I had great shows to watch as a kid. Lets run down the list:

  • Gunsmoke – Matt Dillon, Doc Adams, Chester Goode and Miss Kitty. The best part of the show was them sitting around jawing at each other and crackn’ jokes. Later on Festus Hagen made it even funnier.
  • Walt Disney – Every Sunday night we couldn’t wait to sit around the tv set and listen to Walt Disney’s homey introduction to the evening’s story: Always wholesome and often super entertaining.
  • Highway Patrol – starring the gravel-voiced Broderick Crawford. There was something irresistible about his barking, rough voice that made kids sit up and listen.
  • The Twilight Zone – with introduction by Rod Serling, always spooked the daylights out of us.
  • The Ed Sullivan Show – always great variety and top stars. Ed introduced the Beatles to America.
  • I Love Lucy – with the wacky Lucille Ball, it was my mother’s favorite show.
  • Lassie – a take off from the original 1943 movie Lassie Come Home, it was a heart-wrencher for any boy and his dog.
  • F-Troop – a parody of calvary life in the late 1800’s, it was hilariously funny with characters like Sergeant O’ Rourke, Cpl. Agarn, Cpt. Parmenter and Chief Wild Eagle. A real hoot!

Needless to say, these are only a few of the great shows on tv in those days which kept us kids occupied, ever since my mother brought home our first tv in 1957. Smart mom…
